Deepening our connections to the education community
TIP has sought to build and deepen our connections to the education community in New Jersey through outreach to state and local organizations that focus principally on education, as well as to civic and faith leaders, state and local representatives, public school students, and researchers. Through this outreach we have increased awareness about the extent and severity of school segregation by race and class across New Jersey and about the educational and social inequities that result from segregation. We have conducted this outreach primarily through public speaking and dialogue; participation in community events; and by working with high school students in partnership with a student-run advocacy group based in New York City that focuses on educational equity. We have also worked with faculty and researchers at Rutgers and with national organizations such as the National Coalition on School Diversity.
